Uganda is facing an escalating mental health crisis, as rising case numbers continue to outpace available resources. Mental health professionals warn that the country’s healthcare system is under increasing pressure, with limited infrastructure and funding hindering effective response.
Access to mental health services remains uneven, particularly in rural areas where facilities and trained personnel are scarce. At the same time, stigma surrounding mental illness continues to discourage many from seeking help, further complicating efforts to manage the growing burden.
The situation highlights the urgent need for policy reform, increased funding, and stronger integration of mental health services into primary healthcare. Without these measures, experts caution that the gap between demand and care will continue to widen.
