A growing number of university students in Nigeria are raising concerns about increasing mental health challenges linked to academic pressure, financial difficulties, and uncertainty about employment after graduation.
Students across several institutions say the stress of rising tuition fees, expensive learning materials, and competitive academic environments is affecting their emotional well-being.
Mental health advocates note that anxiety and depression among young people are becoming more visible, especially in urban campuses.
“Students are dealing with multiple pressures at the same time,” said a Lagos-based mental health counselor, who emphasized the need for stronger counseling services in universities.
Experts are urging educational institutions and government agencies to expand mental-health support programs, warning that ignoring the issue could affect academic performance and long-term productivity among young Nigerians.
