Zimbabwe continues to address the impact of economic stress on mental well-being. Non-governmental organizations have expanded support groups and tele-therapy options, helping individuals cope with depression, anxiety, and trauma. Dr. Rutendo Chikodzi, founder of MindCare Zimbabwe, highlighted that community-based peer counseling is proving especially effective. “In times of uncertainty, mental resilience can save lives. Our goal is to normalize seeking help,” she said.
Across Southern Africa, these initiatives represent a growing recognition that mental health is a critical part of national development. While resources remain limited, the combined efforts of governments, NGOs, and local communities signal hope for a future where mental wellness is prioritized and stigma gradually fades.
