In Cameroon, mental health experts and social observers point to rising levels of stress among young people navigating limited job opportunities and uncertain futures.
Many youths are grappling with the decision to either remain in the country or seek opportunities abroad—a dilemma that is creating what analysts describe as “migration-related anxiety.” The emotional toll of this choice is compounded by family expectations and economic hardship.
“The pressure is no longer just about survival,” a local youth advocate noted. “It’s about identity, purpose, and the fear of making the wrong decision.”
Stakeholders warn that without targeted mental health support, this generation may face increasing levels of anxiety, frustration, and burnout.
