In the crossing,
The contention began
You snaked your arms around my throat
And held on for my dear life.
We thrashed together, a battle dance
With the sun rippling over us
Battles passed but the war stood on,
I have gasped for the surface, and thought
This was the finish line.
I have sunk to the murky deep and
let the dark call me home.
I have bobbed up to the surface, left myself to the wind,
Counting every star and
Every breath I took
I have trusted the sails of the wind to
guide me to shore
On the other side of the river
Beats a soul, effervescent
Sturdier feet. warmer hands.
a mouth holding the wind
Whole
On the other side of the river.
