In Egypt, mental health conversations are gaining traction, particularly among young people navigating economic uncertainty, academic pressure, and social expectations. Universities and youth-led organisations are increasingly hosting mental health forums, online campaigns, and peer-support initiatives aimed at breaking long-standing taboos.
Mental health professionals in Cairo have observed a rise in young adults seeking psychological support, especially for anxiety, burnout, and depression. Social media has also become a powerful tool, with Egyptian psychologists and advocates using digital platforms to normalise therapy and encourage open discussions about emotional well-being.
Despite these gains, access remains uneven, especially in rural areas where mental health services are still limited. Experts argue that sustained public education and stronger integration of mental health into primary healthcare are critical next steps.
