After years of conflict, displacement, and trauma, Libya has taken a major policy step by endorsing the National Mental Health Strategy 2024–2030, developed with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health. This strategy reflects a transition from fragmented crisis responses to a coordinated long-term vision for mental well-being across the country.
Key goals include:
Strengthening leadership and governance for mental health services.
Expanding trained mental health professionals across all regions.
Integrating mental health care into community and primary health settings.
Improving early detection, treatment, and follow-up care.
Officials say this strategy is a crucial building block toward acknowledging mental health as a universal human right and offering psychosocial support accessible to all Libyans.
