In Cameroon, prolonged insecurity in the Anglophone regions has left deep psychological scars. Displacement, loss of livelihoods, and exposure to violence have significantly increased cases of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), particularly among women and young people.
Mental health professionals report that university students and unemployed youth in urban centers like Yaoundé and Douala are also facing mounting emotional pressure linked to economic uncertainty and social expectations. While community-based counseling initiatives and NGO-led psychosocial programs are expanding, experts warn that stigma and a shortage of trained mental health workers continue to limit access to care.
