Gaborone, Botswana — A growing wave of psychological exhaustion among school teachers has sparked national concern in Botswana, where educators say increasing workloads and emotional pressure are pushing many to the brink of burnout.
Teachers across the country report experiencing chronic stress, anxiety, and fatigue while managing overcrowded classrooms and limited resources.
Education unions warn that the mental well-being of educators is often overlooked despite their central role in shaping the nation’s future.
Education psychologist Dr. Kabelo Moagi explained that emotional strain within the profession is intensifying.
“Teachers carry not only the academic responsibilities of students but often their emotional burdens as well. Without adequate support, burnout becomes inevitable.”
In response, education authorities are considering workplace wellness programs and psychological support services within the national school system.
