Explore Africa Mental Health’s Commitment and Vision
Mental Health Conversations are still being viewed within the realm of taboos and superstition in Africa. Many mental health patients are perceived to have spiritual problems and are taken to religious centres rather than them getting medical treatment.
There is a lot of ignorance about mental health issues in Africa with many patients suffering abuse in the continent.
The level of stigmatization of mental health patients in the world’s second largest continent is rather high and many of them don’t end up fulfilling their potential. We aim to change the narrative about mental health conversations in Africa with the mission to fight against all forms of stigmatization that mental health patients suffer in the 54 countries of Africa.
